Evan Howard

I’m Evan Howard, a resident of Rhode Island since 1988, and a longtime admirer of the state’s founder, Roger Williams. Since my ordination as an American Baptist minister in 1980, I have served as a pastor in urban, residential, and university settings. As an author, I’ve written for newspapers, religious journals, sermon magazines, and online media outlets. I have also published four nonfiction books and two novels — a process that included working with traditional publishers, self-publishing, and becoming a client of Trident Media Group in New York City. As a songwriter and filmmaker, I have several music videos in the works, and I am eager to help other writers and musicians build their platforms and share their creativity online. My dream for MYSTIC RHODE CREATIVE is to empower artists of all kinds, as well as clergy, congregations, and spiritual seekers, to find their voices and share their visions of a better world. I am excited to walk this journey with you!

He choked out an apocalyptic scenario of our country’s inevitable destruction at the hands of our political, racial, environmental, and medical crises.   It was early.   The man’s dire assessment set my stomach roiling and knees trembling. I had …

You Are Never Far From Peace

You Are Never
Far From Peace

You are never far from peace, but you might not realize it. Your problems are so intense that they churn you up like these frothy waves off the coast of Rhode Island, where I live. Always remember that these threatening conditions only exist on the surface. In the depths of the ocean, peace is always …

The Feminine Face of God

It’s been said that infants bring us close to God because they have so recently been with the angels. I believe our elders also give us glimpses of divinity because, in the words of songwriter Bob Dylan, they are “knocking on heaven’s door.” I’ve been pondering this because my mother turned 100 last May. Now …

Thankfully, the message of Advent addresses the psychological and emotional challenges of the pre-Christmas craziness. A major theme of the message invites us back …
